I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14 ESV
2 Samuel 14
Those who know how this part of David’s life continues and ends know this was not a good move. It appears David showed mercy but one of the weaknesses of David was that he never dealt with the sin of his children and enabled their bad behavior. Absalom killed his brother because of David’s lack of response. Now he is having him return without first asking the Lord, but instead, listening to one of his leaders. My take is that it doesn’t matter what my emotions are saying, I must seek the Lord before I do anything if I want a good outcome.
Why does anyone think they can tell the Potter how to design the clay? I have literally done pottery and know this to be absurd in the natural! How much more to think I can TELL God what to do when I am literally but clay? Jeremiah wanted to intercede when the people were doing evil but the Lord would not allow it knowing at that time it wouldn’t change a thing. Now that they’re after him, he wants them gone! It is easy to intercede but not so easy when the attack is against yourself! I always say that I hope I would have the faith to walk out any circumstance of persecution but until you are in that place, you don’t know. My take is not to judge anyone because we just may not know for ourselves!
1 Peter 3
There is important direction for marriages here. I think of the women in our church whose husbands do not yet walk with the Lord but they live for the Lord and their husbands see this and their hearts are softened by it towards them and eventually toward God. I also think of those men who have matured in the Lord and how the love of the Lord flows through them to their wives and children and what wonderful husbands and fathers they become. My take is live God’s way for it mostly affects those around us. Also ladies, if you study out the “weaker vessel” it is concerning our physical strength and not our minds so don’t get excited!
Sharing the Lord with others MUST be done with honor and respect. I know of no one who has come to the Lord through anger and wrath! I believe baptism is for all to make a public statement of faith when they truly make the Lord Yeshua, Lord of their lives, choosing to live in unity with Him.
Meditate & Apply: Seek the Lord first or don’t expect the best outcome. I have no right to judge another as God is the great Judge and all will be judged by His standard and not man’s! Living God’s way (The Word) is the most effective thing I can do to influence those around me. I am to treat Believer and non-Believer with honor and respect whether I am wronged or not. Only with the help of my Lord can I do this.
I've always appreciated this chapter that says my husband may be won without a word! When I was a new Christian there was a lot of strife in my marriage because I didn't know this. Your choice of words that our husbands do NOT YET walk with the Lord is key. I am sure Gerry will in God's timing and by His means!
Amen, yes he will!
Amen, much inspiration here. Living a godly life truly does affect those around us. Many times I've been surprised by the person who talks to me about what I've done or said that they made note of, both positive and negative. We've got to stay the course, be the light!
Yes, His Light shining through us!
